Adjustable camera angles for ball cam and no ball cam

Postby GuzzleBones on Tue Feb 12, 2019 4:33 pm

I think having the ability to have different camera settings for both ball cam and no ball cam would be a great addition to the game.
I know a lot of people turn off ball cam when dribbling the ball or doing aerials, and having different camera settings may help improve the game. I know in my games I would benefit from having a higher camera angle when ball cam is off in order to see my opponent while dribbling. Feel free to add to this idea, I feel it has a lot of potential.

I think the game would feel too wonky if I kept switching camera angles back and forth

I still don't think that makes it a bad suggestion - anything that can be added to give options to players is one more tool at their disposal. However, the counter to this is "You have a way to change your view angle already", which is also valid.

I'd still love to see an upward limit for camera angle, when dealing with the ball cam.

I find having the camera look straight up at the ball to be incredibly useless.
All that gives me is a view of the ball, with no frame of reference for my own car, nor any information related to other cars in the vicinity.
I'd much rather be able to see things on the ground, while the ball is above my head, without having to toggle ball cam on and off.

I think there might be confusion with what I meant. The idea was to have completely separate view angle settings for both ball cam and no ball cam, allowing for (in my case) a higher more top-down view of the field when ball cam is off and a lower straighter camera angle when ball cam is on.

No, there's no confusion. On controller, you can can change your view by using the Right Stick. On KBM, I don't know what the default bind is if there is one. And if something is in the realm of "aptitude with a mechanic that can be developed", then I'm ok with the answer of "we've given you ways to deal with it, get better with those instead"

I didn't know about this, could you explain how to do it?

When you move the right stick, the camera moves accordingly. If you push up on the right stick, the camera moves up (or down... I can't remember how the inversion works). Granted, this will not allow you to change zoom levels, as it has a fixed point, so being able to change the camera settings would do more than that. But if you want to see people on the other side of the ball, pushing up (or down, whichever) on the right stick will give you a better view to do that

PS4 controllers have 3-way gyroscopes. Could this feature be used to manipulate camera angles?

Or........ maybe some clever kid create as wearable headband containing a digital gyroscope that plugs into the controller so we could manipulate the camera by moving our heads. (just like we do on real life)

This would be similar to PS-VR but employ the regular screen to hopefully eliminate motion sickness.

You almost definitely could with DS4 (if that didn't screw up your connection to Rocket League in the first place). Then again, I'm hardly a person to be talking about DS4, as I've never actually managed to make it do what I want it to do... ever...

And I have no idea what options are available in game for something like that
