Rocket League Roadmap: Summer 2018

Hi everybody!  As mentioned earlier this year, we plan to provide a Rocket League roadmap every few months to give you a look at what content is coming in the next quarter or so.  As May is now here, it's time to take a look at the roadmap for summer 2018!

May
In late May, we plan to release a Content Update including:
  • A brand new Arena
  • The start of Competitive Season 8
  • Competitive Season 7 Rewards
  • New in-game music with the release of ‘Rocket League x Monstercat Vol. 3’
  • And more!
June
Following the Content Update, June will bring additional activities both in-game and out:
  • New, summer-themed in-game Event
  • The RLCS Season 5 World Championship live from London (be sure to tune in for Fan Rewards)!
  • New Licensed Premium DLC
Image July
Every July we celebrate Rocket League’s birthday, and 2018 is no exception.  In July, we’ll kick off a big Anniversary in-game Event with some special throwback content for our long time fans as well as a lot of cool goodies to earn. Stay tuned for additional details as we get closer!

Summer Feature Update (July-August)
We also have another huge Feature Update planned for late Summer.  Some of the highlights include:

Cross-Platform Friends & Parties
  • Register an in-game ID that is a combination of a name with a unique code, like Scarab#7777
  • Add friends from other platforms by entering their ID into the new, in-game friends list
  • Party up with your new cross-platform friends and play online!
Progression 2.0
  • Leveling Updates
    • We’re removing the level cap of 75 and re-balancing the entire level-up curve. Levels will take a fixed amount of XP to earn instead of becoming exponentially longer as you level up.
    • You’ll be converted to a new level appropriate for how much you’ve played Rocket League in your career.
    • Leveling up grants you an Uncommon, Rare, Very Rare, or Import item (instead of these drops being randomly-timed as they are currently)
    • You can earn new Titles and Banners at level 100 and beyond to show off your status
  • XP Updates
    • As part of the leveling updates, XP is going to become Online-only
    • XP will now be based on Time Played in matches in addition to your Score.
    • New XP Mechanics!
      • Match Completion Bonus (for finishing games)
      • Consecutive Games Bonus (for staying in Casual lobbies)
      • Party Bonus (for playing with friends)
      • Leaver Penalty (to punish quitters in all modes)
      • Double XP Weekends
      • And more!
“Rocket Pass”

Alongside the XP and leveling updates, we’ve also been working on a new system to give you new ways to earn items and make progress while playing Rocket League.

Our “Rocket Pass” system consists of multiple Tiers of earnable content.  You increase your Tier by leveling up normally and you’ll unlock new, unique content as you go.  Each “Rocket Pass” will last for a few months before it’s retired and a new Pass will take its place with new content to unlock.

The “Rocket Pass” has both Free and Premium tracks so everybody has something to work for.  The Free track contains new cosmetic items as well as Decryptors and exclusive in-game Titles, while the Premium track will have a flat cost to unlock. You will be able to preview Premium track content before you buy the unlock to access it.

We are still developing the “Rocket Pass” system and we’ll  have more details to share as we get closer to launch!

That’s just a quick look at a few of the major highlights that are coming up this summer.  We’re really excited about all of the planned updates and hope you enjoy everything we have in the development pipeline.  Thanks for playing!

How is this going to work on the console like ps4/xbox1?
I mean you did an update that messed up our hours. It says i have 10 days since that update but iv been playign for hours since day one yet because of that update it messed up my hours. SO if it goes by how many hours i have in game thats going to make me such a low lvl/rank or w/e specially since on steam it gives the ACTUAL hours but on consoles at least ps4 it doesnt give ACTUAL hours it gives days

What ever rank we get under the new system, do we automatically get all of the rewards from the lower ranks or not? I know that seems greedy, but I'm just curious. I'm not fussed if it's a no because I've earned loads of random drops already.
Also, would the trade up system still work on those items in the garage.

I honestly really like what they mentioned there.
Pass systems are a really attractive way of giving free content to those who just play the game and good value to those who invest and if it's done correctly grinding them can be fun aswell.

- rant starting -

BUT I feel like with having to buy Keys to unlock crates, buying DLCs and now a Pass aswell (since the paid Pass will most likely have alot better items) Rocket League needs to find a way to make the game available to a wider audience.

The thing is most people are deterred because while the game is not expensive it is pricey to someone who doesn't know if he/she will enjoy it or not (talking about personal experience with a friend who decided to buy the game after trying it at my place but even then she said she prefers to wait for sale as it's pricey and she wants the car from the DLC aswell but without trying she never tought she would enjoy it).

The game is unique and attractive but alot of potential players need that push.

Finding a way so people can try the game for a limited time would do wonders, especially because if you care about cosmetics you do have to invest money into buying keys etc as most free items (except those you can get with Decriptors and some RLCS stuff) is pretty boring to say the least and let's be honest having a nice car is something that most of you tought about at some point either by getting cheap but nice parts or going all out on those black markets.

Punishment and more detailed report system would be welcome:
- punishment for leaving, Rankeds (only rankeds because in casual while it can be frustrating you get matched with new people anyway).
- for toxic behaviour, Rankeds/Casuals
- for griefing (who constantly and on purpose own goaling and bumping teammates), Rankeds/Casuals
- for AFK, those who afk but move their wheels, Rankeds/Casuals

The game needs discipline because in it's current state it's a joke where people believe they can harm their team or teammate on purpose because they can get away with it.

(And for the love of god please make it so casual games where one team is leading with 5 goals and 1,5 - 2min left are taken out of matchmaking)

It is a step that Psyonix has to take sooner or later unless they are perfectly happy with the amount of playerbase we have.

-rant over-

Overall looking forward to these updates they sound really cool and I hope they turn out amazing (also new Monstercat vol and arena? Yes please!).

People that complain about cosmetics make me laugh, companies need ways to make profits if it's a good company those profits will go back into improving the game(This is where Psyonix has massively dropped the ball). Honestly, people crying about not having the coolest car because they are broke shouldn't be playing online games. These cosmetics have 0 effect on gameplay, anyone can play the game as intended without spending any additional $$$. -endrant-

Now for the rest of your points these are beyond valid, Psyonix has been ignoring their customer base for over a year now. I don't care about most of these issues but a ton of people do and Psyonix still ignores them, it blows my mind and IMO it is the reason Psyonix is slowly losing players instead of gaining them(steam charts).
1.People want a better casual experience
2. People want a better matchmaking system
3. People want equal access to the servers(could possibly be game optimizing issues, either way HCB is the devil)
4. People want their game to actually work(Have you played xBox and switch?)
5. People are tired of smurfing(simply adding a 25 hour total play time before ranked would reduce smurfing)
6. People are crying about toxic players(I think the system is pretty good on this one but toxic people are more likely to q together could be an additional helper)
7. People want volleyball and other similar things.

I see these requests daily and they get supported positively daily and Psyonix ignores it, this is the main reason people get tilted by pay items because the basics haven't been covered yet. I personally love the roadmap but I also want to see the game grow and if Psyonix listens to their customers it will grow.

They should upgrade the in-game reporting system when you are in a match. Psyonix could do this by adding more reasons for reporting so here are the reasons they should add:

•Trash Talking
•Harassment
•Bullying
•Threats
•Asking for Personal Information

They should also add a description box so you can write what they did and this would help the company to understand a little bit more and the more informative it is, the more action they take on the victim.

For example:

User Reporting: JHZER
Reason: Harassment

Description:

He was saying things like 'Your such a bad teammate and you have no life.'

Report Sent by: GeckoPlayzzYT

At the end of your report when you've sent it, you would get a notification saying 'Thank you for making the Rocket League a better environment!'

Can.T wait for the rocket pass what it looks like tbh who cares if rocket league is copying fortnite fortnite copied H1Z1 with battle royale also if there is 100 tiers like fortnite the tier 100 item is gonna be good tbh remove the crates and put the goal explosion or bmds as the tier 100 reward cause its 3% chance of getting a goal explosion or bmd from the crates themselves

i am... angry. angry beyond belief.
i hate the concept of content progression passes in general, but thats mostly down to me being a guy who plays lots of games at the same time. theres simply no way i would EVER get all the content of any of the content-pass-games i own, so i might just as well not bother.
but alright. some people like it, so, let them have it. i mean, it introduces new, free content, so i guess its a win for eve-
premium line. are you serious?
that does it. you will never, EVER, get another penny from me, psyonix.
in case you forgot, YOU ARE NOT FREETOPLAY! i paid real money for this game, i wanna see some stuff for it! making a premium line for the rocket pass, without any way to get it for free, is totally unacceptable.
and dont you tell me "its to cover long term server costs" or some bs like that, you are bathing in money because of the crate system! you can go to youtube and watch people burn hundreds of dollars within minutes just so they can have a CHANCE of getting a certain item, there are millions of these videos, you cant POSSIBLY tell me that you are having trouble with the moneys! adding that premium line is pure greed, in order to get every last coin out of the playerbase.
and if everyone here is gonna go "durr, whats the problem, you can pay for the thing and you get way more stuff than with a dlc, whats the problem?"
the problem is that you DONT GET THIS STUFF. you get the RIGHT to WORK for it, which i find absolutely unbelievable. Psyonix doesnt lose money if we buy the premium line and unlock everything! they dont win anything if we dont manage to get to the end of the pass! there is no reason to not just give us the content when we pay for it...
at least not if you believe they still have dignity. the sole reason why they are going for a content pass system with a premium line based on progression, is so they can sell you the progression tiers as well. because paying for content isnt enough anymore, nowadays its pay for the chance of content, and then pay again so you actually get it, am i right?
screw this. this is absolutely pathetic. i paid money for this, i shouldnt have to put up with all of this nonsense, im expecting to get the goddamn game i pay for, without reminders everywhere that i should be spending more money to get all the stuff i actually WANT, where actual effort went into. this is unacceptable. EA would be proud.

I like the new updates and such and usually love what you guys are doing. Especially adding the decryptors to drops so we can start unlocking chests outside of events. One suggestion I'd like to make though is now that the level system is being revamped is that some of us have been working hard towards the level cap/ getting those titles. I've got just one block shy of a full level to go to get Rocketeer. I think now that the levels will be evenly spaced maybe you could add an extra title for those of us who did the work to get to rocketeer before the update. Like OG Rocketeer or something.

I am not sure if this is the correct place to make suggestions but anyway this may be a stretch but please consider.
SUGGESTION: current Psyonix account or rocket league account or whatever you want to call it that would allow using the same account on multiple platforms.
HOW: Existing players would create an account and link their current favorite or only platform account, new players would create and account and it would link automatically to the platform they are on.
WHEN: You have announced a huge update this summer including Rocket pass, challenges, etc(which we are all very excited about, great job) and I thought that would be a great time to implement a feature like this.
WHY: First off many players realize they would like to switch to PC after they have already spent a decent amount of money on a different platform(not saying its your fault, it is the players choice to purchase keys I realize that). Secondly in recent months the Xbox and PS4 trading market has overall went way down while PC stays consistent. Players not on PC who own expensive items are losing money because of this and the market continues to drop(again not your fault).
So overall this feature would stabilize the trading market and it would be nice to play on your main account while traveling with a Nintendo switch for example.
CONCLUSION: I do not know if this would be hard to implement. You guys are obviously working hard to keep your game going and we appreciate your work, I believe this would be great to add somewhere along the summer road map, thank you please consider.

Casual should not have a leaver penalty. When you get placed in way to many matches with the score lopsided w less than half the match time left. Leaver penalty in casual just forces you to be stuck in matches w smurfs. The rest of the road map looks ok.

lol.... You realize these are cosmetic items that have no impact on the game? You pay 20 for the base items and the game(Which is a great deal btw), not only that, Psyonix gives away decryptors for free items and crates that you can trade up for cosmetic items. You should be angry at your mom for not teaching you common sense.

now, IN THEORY you would be right. if it only were cosmetics, i wouldnt have any problem with it whatsoever. in fact, i bought like 5 dlc packs already, and im really happy with them, i pretty much only drive around with dominus and the icecharger nowadays.
however, what makes me angry is the fact that psyonix doesnt want to give us normal dlc anymore. in case you havent realized, both the crates and the rocket pass are a gamble. the crates... well, i dont have to explain that, and the rocket pass because you simply dont know if youll get through all of it, you might get to level five and then another game does some sort of event or something and you suddenly dont have time for rocket league anymore, and your money is essentially wasted. these are practices which keep popping up all over the gaming industry and, simply put, SHOULDNT BE A THING. we could be simply buying what we wanted, or maybe even getting it for free, if people would simply stop supporting this stuff.
second, the game is making it very clear that it doesnt want me to ignore these things. essentially, the game is full of adverts by now! on the main screen theres the showroom, in the garage there are crates if you dont turn them off, which you dont do because you might wanna trade them for stuff, also there can be people you invited to your party who have premium items, you see these items in game as well AND you see the crate drops (if turned on) which, incidentally, have a button next to them saying "open now" even if you dont have keys.
and its not helped by the fact that the items you get out of these gambles are simply so much BETTER. you can clearly tell that they put a lot more effort into those than into the normal items, so of course i WANT to have them. i just cant get them because i dont have hundreds of € to throw around just so i can get A CHANCE to get sky blue dracos, for which i still need to have the crates, which i have to buy from other players as well.
the rocket pass is just gonna be another advert in the game, because, lets face it, the free items are gonna suck. theres only gonna be good stuff in the premium line, and theyre not gonna give them to us instantly so they can also charge for levelling up the tiers. other than that, theres no point to not just sell us the things, and i dont understand why people think this is "player friendly".
oh, and if youre gonna make the "the devs need money" argument: no. clear no. they sold 40 million copies across all platforms, so even if were saying all of those were bought on a steam sale, thats 400 million dollars. then theres the dlc and, obviously, the crates, which YOU KNOW make probably double the profit of the game itself... all for an indie developer who didnt have a big publisher or a kickstarter campaign, so you know the game wasnt that expensive to make in the first place.
they dont NEED the money - they WANT the money. and they dont even put it back into the game, they only put it into more items so we can pay them even more.
also, in case you havent realized, you had no reason to insult me back there. i got ranty towards psyonix, and i still am, but for you there was no reason to say what you said.

ps, the decryptors are a joke and you know it. i got a total of 10 by now, which gave me exactly three items which werent decals, one of them a duplicate, none of them painted. youre never gonna get the stuff you want with those.

^You never said how the crate/pass items had an actual effect on the game, meaning again they are just cosmetics... You state only the good items are premium, I use painted sparks(free drop), painted octopus(free drop), painted alchemist wheels(free drop) & painted dominus rlcs skin(free drop), so premium vs free is completely subjective(all my crate items are benched except fireworks). Next point, how would you suggest Psyonix make money to keep funding their eSports? If all items are given away for free the eSports scene won't grow. And if you say you don't care about eSports, how do you expect Psyonix to keep providing new content besides making Rocket League 2, 3, 4, etc?
