Thanks to everyone that came out to play Whizzle: Accidental Hero at PAX! Everyone really enjoyed the demo and we got a lot of great feedback.
We’re excited to get back to work polishing up the experience, adding more levels, weapons and upgrades and getting it in your hands as soon as possible!
If you haven’t seen the screenshots yet, check them out here. We’re going to post a gameplay video soon, so keep checking back for more updates.
Dave and a few guys from Psyonix are at PAX showing off our new iOS game. If you’re at PAX stop by the [A] List Games booth and play our demo!
“Whizzle: Accidental Hero” is a 3D space shooter in the same vein as classics such as “Star Fox.” In the game, players take on the role of Whizzle, a fuzzy little creature who unintentionally becomes the pilot of a powerful spaceship. His task – saving the universe as best he can. “Whizzle: Accidental Hero” promises stunning visuals, action packed game play and tight controls in a space shooter for iPad and iPhone
Starting today, July 6th and continuing until August 3rd, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars is free for Playstation Plus members in Europe. US territories are coming soon as well.
Now is a great time to check out the game or get back online and join in on the fun with new players!
We’re pushing out another update today with some new stuff for you guys to try out.
- Added a new single player time trial mode called “Speed Run” – try it out and let us know what your best time is!
- The RIFT faction has a brand new plane!
- New primary weapon – the Shotgun! It fires a powerful spray of bullets that are deadly at short range.
- New secondary weapon – the Timed Bomb! It fires a projectile that creates a large explosion after a set amount of time.
- Changed the Missile weapon. They are no longer lock-on. Instead, they can be fired without a lock but are not able to seek enemies as accurately.
- New Game Mode: Capture the Core!
- Made the camera not as rigidly attached to your plane, which makes flying around feel a little nicer.
- The R.I.F.T. (Ground Faction) plane has been added
- You can now destroy some of the giant chains in the map.
- Added Health pickups that restore a damaged plane when touched
- Added Proximity Mines throughout the level – watch out!
- Fixed the bug that caused player names to mistakenly get reset to “Player” on login
- Added Options menu that allows you to configure Inverted controls, Resolution, Level of Detail settings (for performance), and toggle Full screen mode and VSync.
We’re now shooting for releasing the update tomorrow or Friday. In lieu of the update I can announce that the new game mode will be a capture the flag type mode. We’ve already had a blast playing the first iteration of it but we need to polish out a few game breaking bugs before we drop it to the public.
We’re pushing out version 0.0.3 today and wanted to update you guys on what’s new.
- Added a new frontend menu with a built in server browser that shows all our dedicated servers with player counts. We intend to to allow players to host their own servers and advertise them in the same space eventually.
- Updated the in-game menu (press ESCAPE, or SELECT on a controller to open) with a much nicer, more readable Controls diagram for both Keyboard/Mouse and Controller.
- Fixed some issues with bullet tracers that made them always fire to the “left” of your plane
- Improved overall bullet tracer appearance and visibility
- Users who disconnect from then reconnect to a server will no longer lose their “Kill” and “Assist” stats.
- Made “suicides” that occur after being damaged give credit to the last damager more reliably, so damaged planes can’t suicide to give the killer no credit.
- Reversed the aileron / wing flap movement directions – they were backwards (thanks to Ushao on Rock Paper Shotgun)
- Barrel Rolls are now better at confusing locked-on missiles.
This first week of updates focused mainly on stability and usability but we really want to get you guys some more weapons and game modes so keep checking back for more gameplay updates in the future!
Here’s a couple of images of the concept art we’re working on for the final look of the planes. There are two distinct factions so the planes have a much different look to them.
We’ve got some new features rolling out next week as well. Keep checking back here for more updates!
